Reading Ensight needs no account and collects nothing about you. The site sets one cookie, and only when you choose an edition: the language you picked. Your choice of theme and of text size, the stories you save to read later and the pages kept for reading without a connection stay in your own browser and are never sent to us. None of it identifies you. There are no third-party scripts, no advertising network, no tracking pixels and no analytics service, and the site never asks to send you notifications.

What the site counts. Three kinds of daily totals, and only totals. For each advertisement: how many times it appeared, how many of those it was on screen for at least a second, and how many times it was clicked — the figures an advertiser is owed. For each story: how many times it was opened, in each edition — which is what “most read” is made from. For each kind of page: how quickly it loaded and responded, as your browser measured it. No cookie, identifier or address is stored with any of them. Your network address is used, in memory only and for thirty minutes, so that one reader is not counted twice; it is never written down. What you type into a search box is not logged or kept.

What we keep when you give it to us. Signing up for the Morning Number keeps your name, address, edition and the time you consented. A form — a correction, a notice, a request to advertise — keeps what you wrote and the address to reply to. The network address a form came from is kept with it for seven days, to stop the same machine sending the same form hundreds of times, and is then removed. It is never stored with anything you read.

Who sees it. Only the staff whose work needs it: finance and support see subscribers; the newsroom does not. Every export of reader data is recorded with the name of the person and the reason. We never sell it, and we do not share it with anyone for their own use.

Two services that work for us. The company that delivers our email sees the name and address it is sending to and the message itself, and nothing else. Our backups are kept by a storage service, encrypted on our own server before they leave it: the service holds them but cannot read them. Neither is used until it is bound by a written agreement to use the data only to do that job for us. These services may be outside Ethiopia. Write to privacy@ensight.et to know which companies they are and where.

Who is responsible, and why we hold it. Ensight is published by Mo Creatives, Addis Ababa, which decides what is kept and is responsible for it under the Personal Data Protection Proclamation (No. 1321/2024). We hold what you give us because you asked: your consent for the newsletter, our agreement with you for a subscription or an invoice, and your request when you write to us.

Age. Ensight is written for adults. To sign up for the Morning Number, subscribe or write to us you must be 18 or over, or have the consent of a parent or guardian; we do not knowingly keep a younger person's details, and remove them when told. (The threshold is a draft for counsel to confirm against the Proclamation.)

Your rights. Write to editor@ensight.et to see, correct or delete what we hold about you; the full list is below.

That is the only cookie a reader receives. Staff who sign in to the desk carry a second one, for their session; readers never receive it.

Oduu Iimeelii, fi Irraa Bahuu

The Morning Number is sent only after you open the link in the confirmation email: nobody can sign you up without your say. Every issue carries a link to leave. Leaving the newsletter never touches a paid print subscription, which is a separate agreement; and coming back asks for your consent again.

Haalawwan fi Ulaagaalee

Ensight publishes business, finance and technology reporting for general information. It is not investment advice. Every figure carries its source and period; check the source before relying on it for a decision.

Print subscriptions are invoiced and paid by bank transfer, telebirr or Coopay. There is no card payment on this site. A subscription starts with the next issue after payment is confirmed, runs for the period invoiced, and is not renewed without a new invoice you have agreed to.

These terms are on this page, in full, for as long as they apply; print it or save it as a PDF for your records. When they change, every subscriber is told by email within 48 hours, with what changed, and asked again for their consent (Media Proclamation No. 1238/2021, Art. 61(8)). Last changed: Draft for legal review, 25 October 2026.

Governing law (draft for counsel). These terms, and any dispute about the site, the magazine or a subscription, are governed by the law of the Federal Democratic Republic of Ethiopia, and the courts of Addis Ababa have jurisdiction (the venue is for counsel to confirm). Nothing here limits a right the law gives you that cannot be waived.

The public API and the feeds (draft for counsel). The machine-readable feeds and /api/v1 are offered for personal, academic and newsroom use. Credit "Ensight", with a link, on anything made from them; keep to the rate the API answers at (a 429 means wait); do not resell the data, or offer it as a service of your own, or use it to build another publication's figures page. Access may be withdrawn for misuse. The figures remain © Mo Creatives or the source each one names.

Mirga Abbummaa fi Fayyadama

The reporting, figures and design are © Mo Creatives. Quote a sentence or a figure with a link and the words "Ensight" and the date, and you need not ask. To reproduce a whole article, a chart or a page of the magazine, write to editor@ensight.et.

Photographs belong to the people credited under them and are used under the licence stated there. Their terms, not ours, govern reuse.

When we get something wrong we say so, on the story, in both editions, with the date — and we say what kind of change it was: a correction (something was wrong), a clarification (something was unclear), or an update (something has changed since). The desk keeps the version the correction replaced. We do not quietly edit a figure.

Every story has a link to report an error. You can also use the form on the About page.

Your right of correction and of reply. Under Media Proclamation No. 1238/2021, Art. 50, anyone whose name and reputation was affected by false or inaccurate information we published may demand a correction, and anyone affected by a report that violated their civil rights may have a reply published — free of charge, in proportion, under the story it concerns, in both editions. Ask on the About page, choosing "a correction" or "a reply", within three months of the story's publication. We publish within 24 hours of receiving it; if the editors must check further, we tell you so by email and decide within three weeks. We may decline a reply that is unrelated to the report, inaccurate, disproportionate or unlawful, or that would negate accurate reporting; if we do, we tell you why in writing, and you may ask a court to order it (Art. 50(4)).

Mirga Daataa Keessanii

Under Ethiopia's Personal Data Protection Proclamation (No. 1321/2024) you may ask what Ensight holds about you, for a copy of it in a form you can take elsewhere, for it to be corrected, for it to be erased, for its use to be restricted while a question about it is settled, and to object to its use — including to any marketing, which then stops. Where we hold something because you consented, you may withdraw that consent at any time; what was done before you withdrew it stays lawful, and leaving the newsletter is one way to do it. Write from the address it concerns to privacy@ensight.et. You will have an answer within 30 days. Two things are kept after an erasure, and we will say so: invoices, which tax law requires for six years, and your address on the do-not-mail list, so that you are never mailed by mistake.

If you are not satisfied with our answer you may complain to the data-protection authority. Secondary sources name it as the Ethiopian Communications Authority; counsel confirms the name and the complaint route before launch, and this line will carry its address.

A message or correction reportTwo years.
A request to advertiseTwo years from the last contact, unless it becomes a booking.

Accessibility

Ensight aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.2 at level AA, in both editions: every page works from a keyboard and with a screen reader, pictures carry a text alternative, the text can be enlarged from the page itself, colour is never the only signal, and the site works on a slow connection and without script.

Known issues. Since 23 October 2026 the automated check against WCAG 2.2 AA that runs before every release reports no findings on the pages it covers, small labels included. Not yet done: a review by disabled readers — of the site, of the desk the newsroom works in, and of the PDF documents other than the glossary (the glossary PDF is tagged for screen readers; the story itself states what each attached document says). An invoice is a page your own browser prints to PDF, so how accessible that PDF is depends on the browser.

If something on the site stands in your way, write to editor@ensight.et with the page and what happened. You will have an answer within five working days, and a fix or a way round in the next release.
